About Me
My name is Dileydi Florez. I’m a Visual Artist and Storyteller, specialized in Editorial Design, Drawing & Comics. I love using drawing and painting as a tool to express my creativity, and comics as a way to communicate my beliefs and knowledge to our society. The originality and creativity of my works emerge from a very particular fusion between tropical blood and “lusitan” spirit. I was born in Bogotá, Colombia and grew up in Portugal. I am constantly in search of new narratives, exploring the plasticity of materials as an integral part of my creative process. I have a predilection for watercolors, gouache, chinese ink, graphite on paper and digital coloring. In 2018, I gave lessons of Comic at Ar.Co – Centro de Arte & Comunicação Visual, Lisbon, Portugal. I have collaborations in newspapers and magazines around the world

Artist Statement
Art is a tool and a medium to communicate. Art improves our social skills, gives us new ideas and examples on how to be creators in our daily life. It promotes the use of creativity and imagination as a way of thinking. Art promotes literacy and knowledge. It makes us take attention, to feel inspired by the world that surrounds us, to be aware of the details that compose life, creating bridges for us to find peers. Art channels our emotions. It helps us to accept frustration, to be flexible to change, to have perseverance in our choices, and to keep pursuing and accomplishing our dreams. Art is supported by techniques. It gives us tools to discover, to learn and to try other ways to enjoy this adventure that life is. As an immigrant and an Artist who has lived in different countries and met different cultures, I feel that sharing my knowledge through Art, helps people feel connected and understand our place in the world. Having these goals in mind, I have been creating Art as books, paintings, comics and illustrations. I organize events, exhibitions, informal talks and others cultural activities for both adults and kids promoting the connection between different generations, communities and individuals. Through these partnerships and interactions I find that Art is a major promoter of well being giving greater meaning to my work.
