All Eyes On: Emily Swan

About my Work

I’m an analog collage artist, and I enjoy working most with vintage and retro images, books and magazines, as well as found items. My inspiration is the world around me and how life can be so random and bizarre, yet also so beautiful. With these ideas in mind, I use my collages to explore and reflect on the beauty and absurdities that I stumble upon in my everyday life. Often referencing American culture, my artwork takes a critical or sarcastic view on thoughts, self-talk, feelings, pain, emotions, struggles, and other aspects of the human experience. When people see my collages, I want them to discover what is there, and continue to see and feel new things the longer that they look.

About Me

I’m Emily Swan, and I’m 42 years old and was born and raised in Connecticut, on the east coast of the United States. Since 2009, I’ve been living in the Netherlands with my husband and 3 daughters. I have my PhD in Nutrition and love everything food and science-related. Besides collaging, I enjoy baking, cooking and photography.
