Statement

Ioana Tocoaie’s ( b.1998, Sibiu, Romania), artistic practice centers around the fantastic, superimposing recognizable elements from a feminist area with metamorphosed fragments, contradictions of reality. Artworks are assembled like a puzzle, a collage of fragments, touches gestures or recognizable elements, a complex game, a scenography as such. A show that every viewer consumes before deciphering it. She built a utopian habitat by implementing imaginary, fantastic elements. The main character, a personal look of the female character is found in most of her artworks. It creates a relationship between feminist discourse and natural elements transposed through the image collage, all coexisting on the same surface. In works such as “My inner wolf” or “Leviathan” it is possible to decipher the route she takes by detaching herself from precise references
