Tema: Miradas alternativas sobre el cuerpo y el deseo. Buscamos obras que cuestionen la mirada convencional masculina y las dinámicas de poder que esta impone, e imaginen nuevas formas de mirar el cuerpo/nuevas posibilidades en la representación de la figura humana y el deseo.
Formato: Se aceptan obras de cualquier formato (pintura, escultura, textil, fotografía, video, performance, etc.). Puesto que se trata de una exposición colectiva, obras que encajen dentro de un espacio 2×2 serán más indicadas (aunque obras de mayores dimensiones también serán consideradas). Para obras que necesiten ser enmarcadas, los artistas son responsables por facilitar los marcos o cubrir su coste (los marcos podrán ser enviados al artista después del final de la exposición).
Envío: El envío de las obras hacia y desde la galería es responsabilidad de las artistas. Esto implica que el artista es responsable por los gastos de envío (y respectivas tasas), seguro y posibles pérdidas o daños. Los artistas serán contactados tras el fin de la exposición para coordinar la devolución de las obras.
Ventas: Las obras en exposición pueden estar disponibles para venta. El precio final de las obras deberá incluir la comisión de la galería (50%), utilizada para cubrir gastos de organización, promoción y mantenimiento de la exposición. Suboart Magazine no beneficiará de ninguna parte de las ganancias.
Fecha y ubicación: La exposición tendrá lugar entre las últimas dos semanas de mayo y las dos primeras de junio (fecha que podrá sufrir algunos ajustes), en la galería de arte FLIPA (ubicada en Barcelona, España). Las fechas definitivas de la exposición todavía están pendientes de confirmación.
Cualquier persona es bienvenida a candidatearse. Sin embargo, teniendo en cuenta que la exposición se realizará en Barcelona y que los artistas seleccionados deberán encargarse de envíar sus obras a la galería, tendrán preferencia artistas basados en España.
Los artistas deberán rellenar el formulario de candidatura con su nombre, pequeña biografía/statement, enlace a su website (o portfolio) y una descripción de las obras que desean presentar (con imágenes). Es permitido presentar una, dos o tres obras, no más. Una serie de obras cuenta como una obra. En el caso de presentar màs de una obra, los artistas deben presentar todas las obras en el mismo formulario. Pretendemos tender un formulario por persona.
Excepcionalmente, se pueden presentar obras que todavía no están acabadas. Para participar con obras que todavía no están terminadas (con la garantía de que estarán listas para ser exhibidas a principios de abril), los artistas deberán entrar en contacto directamente con carolina@suboartmagazine.com.
La convocatoria estará abierta desde el 9 de febrero hasta el 24 de febrero (23:59 GMT). La lista de artistas preseleccionados será publicada entre la primera semana de marzo, y los artistas seleccionados serán contactados individualmente.
Los artistas se comprometen, en caso de ser seleccionados, a entregar las obras a la galería hasta el 21 de abril (es decir, las obras tienen que estar en la galería en esta fecha). Los artistas son responsables por el envío de las obras hacia y desde la galería. Theme: Alternative gazes on the body and desire. We are looking for works that question the conventional male gaze and imagine new ways of seeing and looking at the body, and that open a door for new, subversive representations of the human figure and desire.
Format: Most formats (painting, sculpture, textile, photography, video, performance, etc.) are accepted. Since it will be a collective exhibition, works that can fit within a 2×2 space might be better suited (although bigger formats will also be considered). For works that need to be framed, artists are responsible for providing the frame or covering the cost of one (after the exhibition there is the option to ship the frames back to the artists).
Shipping: The shipping of the works to and from the gallery is the responsibility of the artist. This means the artist is responsible for the cost of shipping (and related fees), as well as insurance and loss or damage incurred in the delivery of the artworks. Artists will be contacted in order to organize for the artworks to be shipped back, after the end of the exhibition. Under no circumstances, the gallery or Suboart Magazine will be hold responsible for any damage caused to the artworks.
Sales: The works exhibited should be available for sale. Earnings will be split between the artist and the gallery (50/50), in order to cover expenses related to the curation, promotion and maintenance of the exhibition. Suboart Magazine will not receive any share from the earnings.
Time and location: The exhibition will take place during the last two weeks of May and first two weeks of June (subject to slight adjustments), at FLIPA Art Gallery (located in Barcelona, Spain).
Everyone is welcome to participate. However, due to the fact that the exhibition will take place in Barcelona, we prefer artists who are based in Spain. Selected artists should be willing to ship their artworks to and from the gallery.
Applicants should fill out the application form with their name, short biography/artist statement, link to website (or portfolio) and a description of the work they would want to submit (with pictures).
As an exception, we accept submissions of artworks that aren’t ready yet. If you have an artwork that isn’t finished yet, please reach out directly to carolina@suboartmagazine.com to clarify details, before submitting through our form. In any case, you’d need to guarantee that the artwork will be ready by the beginning of April 2023.
The open call will be open from February 9th until February 24th (23:59 GMT). In case there are too many applications, we reserve the right to close the open call earlier. The shortlist with the finalists will be published within the first week of March, and selected artists will also be contacted individually.
Artists agree to, in case of being selected, deliver the works to the gallery until April 21st (meaning the artworks must be at the gallery at this date).
