Call for artists: December 2023 & January 2024 Print issues

Dear artist,

this call for artists is closed. Please do not submit anymore.
If you submitted before the deadline, we’ll get back to you with feedback before December 5th.

What?

Get featured in our December 2023 or January 2024 print issues
Features spread over 2 pages and show at least 2 of your works (oftentimes more), plus your artist bio, statement, website & social media handle
We’ll select in between 4 and 14 artists for interviews with us
Interviews are in between 4 and 10 pages long

Who?

Artists who are 18 years or older from all fields of visual art can apply to this open call, there is no specific theme.
Please note that we do not accept AI-generated images.
(Fields of visual art we accept, for example: painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, installation, printmaking, performance/video, collage, fibre & textile art, mixed media, illustration)


How?

1. Fill out the submission form below
2. send up to 6 works to submissions@suboartmagazine.com, Subject: DEC/JAN

Please stick strictly to the word count indicated in the form and the subject line of the email.

Pictures:

WeTransfer (preferred), Google Drive, DropBox or attached to your email as loose images or zip.
Please do not embed the images inside your email.

High resolution images (preferably 300 dpi, 31 cm on the longer side (vertical) & 22 cm on the longer side if horizontal)
– Named: First Name_Last Name_Title_Year_Technique_Size (specify if cm, inches, feet or other)
JPG or PNG (no .heic or tiff)

Pictures must only show the artwork, no watermarks, no frames or back ground (except for sculptures). Please note that we intend to work with the pictures you send us during your submission, so please do send high quality pictures

Artists submitting videos or videos of performances, please submit still images.

Fees?

To enable artists from all backgrounds to participate in this open call, we don’t charge a submission fee. In case you are selected, there is a non-refundable publication fee of 20€ (22$ USD) that will include a free digital copy of the magazine as a PDF. To enable artists from difficult financial backgrounds to participate, we’ll waive the publication fee for up to 5 selected artists per month.

Further information

Print issues will be available for purchase internationally through print on demand.
Your works will be shared on our Instagram page via posts or stories or reels.
We’ll get back to all artists with feedback until December 5th, even if you are not selected.
Even though submissions are open until November 15th, we encourage you to apply during the month of October to be included in our December issue.

We reserve the right to disregard submissions which do not respect the above mentioned guidelines, especially in regard to word count of bio & statement & naming the images.
